What is a shared container service?

When you are a frequent car shipper, you will soon face an offer from you shipping agent, to ship your cargo as a co-load, shippment with other shippers in one container.

A shared container service is also called consolidated container or LCL ( Less then a container Load). This type of service is provided for customers, who do not have enought cars or other cargo to maximize the space of a full container.  All cargo going to the same destination arel be combined together and they become an FCL – a Full Container Load.

Shared container service is offered to minimize the cost of shipping, however in most circumstances it delays the shipping transit. Combining cars and other cargo together may take few days or weeks depending on whether all customers are ready at the same time.

How big are ocean containers?
